Happy New Year!
January is always a symbol for new beginnings. This year we are excited about all of the new things to come.
At the same time, it is always wise to reflect upon some history that brought us to where we are today, bringing experience and maturity to ensure that great things happen for our future.
Literacy is so important for everyone, and a group of hardworking volunteers that help further our community members have worked hard for 30 years to give many of our residents the gift of better reading, writing and communication. Read to learn more about the Literacy Volunteers of South Sarasota County. Thank you and congratulations to your volunteers and students.
Speaking of history, it is time for the state of Florida to celebrate 500 years of existence. In the short year of being involved with Viva Florida, we have learned so much about the state we have spent most of our lives and chose to raise our family in. The more we learn, the more we love. Please be sure to read the Viva Florida story to find out what events and exhibits interest you and learn more about our wonderful state. There are many local and regional events that focus on the cultural heritage that made Florida what it is today.
Over the next few months you will get the chance to wear your Sunday best to help the groups in the area that bring out the best of those around us. There are plenty of opportunities present in the January issue. These fun events are a great way to socialize and are vital to the financial health of our community. Please find out how you can participate.
And for those that did not get a chance to see the many North Port Area Chamber of Commerce members’ storefronts decorated for the annual Frosty Awards we have a photo spread and will show you who won.
One last thing: North Port Magazine strives to bring you the information and stories you would like to read. If you are involved with a group, school, non-profit, club, or you know a person that has had some interesting experiences you think others will want to know about, please contact us. We can’t share if you don’t. And as always, when you see an advertiser, please thank them for helping us to promote our community. We could not publish this magazine without them.
